Resources & Publications Policies & Position Statements Stormwater Management Service Charge

The "Stormwater Levy" known correctly as the Stormwater Management Service Charge, came into being in 2006.

The SIA, along with several State Government Departments, recognised that the major problem with stormwater management was the funding of it.  It needed a sustainable funding source, available to Councils to manage their stormwater.

The Stormwater Management Service Charge allows Councils to charge up to $25 per household per year, and these funds must be spent on the management of stormwater.

It can be spent on the following:

  • implimenting Council's Stormwater Management Plan

  • installing new GPTs, wetlands, WSUD solutions, devices, etc

  • addressing flooding, and water quantity control

  • asset renewal and auditing of stormwater assets (both conveyance and treatment)

  • maintenance of GPTs and other treatment solutions

  • Stormwater Harvesting
